If you’re a Hindu, it can be challenging to figure out which foods are best for your diet and which aren’t. As with any religion, there are various sects of Hinduism. Each sect has different beliefs and practices. That makes things even more complicated when it comes time to know what’s good and bad for your body! So we talked to nutritionists who have expertise in this area about their favorite (and least favorite) foods for Hindus. Here’s what they had to say:

Lentils (Daal) Are Great!

Lentils (daal) are a great source of protein, fiber, iron, and magnesium. They’re also pretty tasty! If you’re looking for vegetarian food that will help you stay healthy and feel full without adding too many calories, lentils are an excellent choice.

Beans (Rajma) Are Great!

Beans are a healthy, low-fat source of protein, fiber, iron, and folate (a B vitamin). They’re also rich in magnesium and phosphorus.
